Capitol Christmas Tree - Details
Each year Christmas trees grace the front lawn of the US Capitol in December and the US Agriculture and Forest departments accomplish this task. They select the tree after a great national search for perfect tree in July, So, that in December the beauty and splendor of the US Capitol Christmas Tree can become the apple of everyone’s eye. Once the tree has been selected by the Capitol Grounds’ superintendent, the tree is properly cut, covered, loaded and prepped for travel to the Capitol in November.
The National Christmas Tree - Details
In 1923, President Calvin Coolidge walked from the White House to the Ellipse to light a 48-foot fir tree decorated with 2,500 electric bulbs in red, white and green, as a local choir and a “quartet” from the U.S. Marine Band performed. 86 years later, this American holiday tradition continues to bring citizens together to share in a message of hope and peace.
